WORD: Changing endnotes from roman numerals to arabic numbers I just got a new MAC with Word installed, and I discovered I no longer have a small icon at the bottom-right corner of the Footnote Group on the References tab of the ribbon. Use footnotes and endnotes in Pages on Mac. A document can contain footnotes, which appear at the bottom of the page, or endnotes, which appear at the end of the document or a section. You can’t have both footnotes and endnotes in the same document, but you can convert all notes in the document from one type to another.

Click the References tab on the Ribbon. Click the little arrow in the lower right corner of the Footnotes group. Continue as in Step 2. Question: Q: In Word, how do I convert all endnotes from i, ii, iii to 1, 2, 3? I half-converted to Macs three years ago, but continued to use a PC desktop until a year ago; and on the PC, the Word default of numbering endnotes with small Roman numerals (i, ii, iii) was easy to fix, so I continued running that fix on the PC.

Most footnotes are numbered 1, 2, 3, and so on, but Word enables you tochange this standard numbering format to use letters, Roman numerals, or the special reference symbols *, †, ‡, and §.M.
Follow these steps to change reference marks:
- Summon the Footnote and Endnote dialog box by clicking the dialogbox launcher in the lower-right corner of the Footnotes group on the References tab.
The Footnote and Endnote dialog box is shown earlier in this tutorial. - Select a number format.
This list shows your choices:
1, 2, 3 . . .
a, b, c . . .
A, B, C . . .
i, ii, iii . . .
I, II, III . . .
*, †, ‡, § . . .
Click Apply.
All footnotes in a section must use the same numbering scheme. You can't mix and match.
All footnotes in a section must use the same numbering scheme. You can't mix and match.
If you choose the special symbols *, †, ‡, and § for your reference marks, Word doubles them, if necessary, to create unique reference marks. The firstfour footnotes use the symbols singly. The mark for the fifth through eighth notes are **, ††, ‡‡, and §§. After that, the symbols are tripled.
To keep this doubling and tripling of symbols in check, select the Restart Each Page option in the Note Options dialog box. That way, the mark for thefirst note on each page is always an asterisk (*). Otherwise, you end up with reference marks such as §§§§§§§§§§, which look silly.
To keep this doubling and tripling of symbols in check, select the Restart Each Page option in the Numbering drop-down list of the Footnote andEndnote dialog box. For example, you can specify that an asterisk (*) mark all footnotes. If you want to enter a symbol that's not readily available fromthe keyboard, click the Symbol button and select the symbol you want from the resulting Symbol dialog box.
